Just a moment. . . We're waking Granny up from her nap. She can tell us how to work this gadget. . .

 Old Fashion Butter Molds

Not everyone's mamma churned and fashioned her own butter. So if you've never seen it done or been told, you may not know how to use these butter molds. So listen up . . .here's what our Granny says:

"Take your softened butter. (Fresh churned butter, umm umm good, or softened store bought.) Make sure there is no water in the butter. If you've churned your own butter, you know what I mean.

Pull the knob up on the butter mold, turn it upside down like you're holding a cup. Then press in your softened butter. Press it in hard, a little bit at a time to get all of the air out. Fill it and pack it in good. Then lay a piece of wax paper on the opened end. Set it in the ice box [that's a refrigerator for us modern folks] and let it harden for a least a day. Take off the wax paper and gently slide the butter out of the mold by pressing down on the handle slowly. Set your butter on a fancy dish, and it's ready to take to the country fair!
